Hello and welcome to Class 1.
Here you can find your class page where you can keep up to date with your child's learning 😊
This term, we will be diving into our exciting new topic, At the Seaside! Through a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, the children will learn all about seaside life, both past and present.
We will begin by reading Lucy and Tom at the Seaside by Shirley Hughes. Using this story as our starting point, the children will take part in a variety of reading, comprehension and writing activities, including sentence writing and sharing their own opinions about the text.
As part of our learning, we will explore how seaside holidays have changed over time. The children will compare life in the past with life today, drawing on their own experiences and what they have learned in class. They will discover what it was like to visit the seaside in the past and investigate how everyday items such as clothing, toys and transport have evolved.
In phonics, we will continue learning Phase 4 CCVC and CVCC words, as well as tricky words. The children will use their growing phonic knowledge to blend and segment words confidently for both reading and writing.
In maths, we will explore shape and sorting, multiplication and division, space, time, and addition and subtraction beyond 10. We will also be introduced to money and begin adding amounts together using coins.
Our PE focus this term is games. Through both indoor and outdoor sessions, the children will continue developing their gross motor skills and fundamental movement skills. We will also work on letter formation through daily handwriting practice and the Red Rose Ditties programme.
Alongside this, we will continue to develop listening and attention skills, speaking and communication skills, and positive social interactions through play-based learning and circle time activities.
In Music, KIDSROCK will deliver weekly workshops where the children will explore a variety of musical instruments and learn to perform a song together.
For Expressive Arts and Design, we will create vibrant seaside-inspired artwork based on the work of Henri Matisse. The children will experiment with paint and collage techniques, using bold shapes and bright colours to produce their own creative masterpieces.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled and engaging final term of learning!
